호주 산불이 두 달 넘게 이어지는 가운데 호주 당국이 국가비상사태를 선포했다. 시드니모닝헤럴드 등 외신에 따르면 호주 산불에 대응하기 위해 뉴사우스웨일스 주정부는 3일(현지시각)부터 일주일을 국가비상사태 기간으로 정했다.

현재까지 뉴사우스웨일스 주 경찰이 확인한 사망자는 자원 소방관 등 총 8명이다. 빅토리아 주에서는 28명의 실종자가 발생했다. 호주에서 산불이 2달간 계속 되고 있는 가운데 까치가 소방차 소리를 흉내내기 시작하는 일도 생겼다.
